Many hear or see the term: “Front mount intercooler” or FMIC, on a forum or by someone telling you the modifications they have done to their car. For more information on what an intercooler is, be sure to check out these articles:
1. Air to Air vs Air to Water Intercoolers
A front mount intercooler refers to having a intercooler that is mounted in front of the car behind the front bumper. On some vehicles the intercooler is actually moved to this position, while on others the intercooler was already located there, and the owner of the car is just referring to modifying that intercooler by getting a better one or one that is just larger.
Intercoolers can be located in the front side air dams, on top of the motors like on Subaru’s, or any place that receives airflow, if they are air to air intercoolers.
